Orange Coffee aka Kat Rodriguez is a beautiful multitalented, grammy award winning complete musician in all of its many splendors. She is an incredible singer, saxophonist, songwriter, vocalist, and educator.

At the age of 10, encouraged by her percussionist father, Kat picked up her first musical instrument, the clarinet. Later realizing that the clarinet and classical music was not the only musical career she wanted to pursue, she switched to the alto saxophone and began to learn jazz and other contemporary styles of music. That was the best decision she ever made.

In 2001, Kat was awarded the International Women in Jazz award by legendary bassist Caroline Ray and Vocalist Lenora Helm. And from then she received a fellowship to study music with Saxophonist/recording artist Antonio Hart. After auditioning for several colleges Kat accepted a full Scholarship to The New School University in New York City, where she graduated with a BFA in Jazz Saxophone and Composition.

It is a Foundation that does outreach programs in communities all over the world. This opportunity made Kat realize her love for teaching. In 2014 due to her losing her dad and choosing to stay home and be a full-time parent Kat stopped touring for 9 years. During that time, Kat got her Master's in Teaching, and she directed after school programs that would reach over 1000 students. In 2020, Kat took 2 important jobs that would change her outlook on education forever. She became the high school music coordinator for JFK HS and the Jazz Big Band Professor and Director at Brooklyn College. In the span of 3 years, Kat created a curriculum she was proud of sharing across the nation, Layola University and Kansas City University being 2 of the most recent colleges to request masterclasses from Kat. In 2021, Orange Coffee made her debut and Kat divided her teaching endeavors with gigging by taking on a different stage name. Since then Orange Coffee has performed at Denver Comes Alive with Super Sonic Shorties and Nikki Glaspie.
